Henry Bagshawe BA (hons)
ROOTED IN DESIGN - Henry is originally from the small picturesque village of Wormhill, in the Peak District National Park. Art and Design was always a huge part of his life growing up; his parents are both artists who have instilled the importance of good design in him from a very young age.
This led firstly to a design scholarship to secondary school (Denstone College, Staffs) and later achieving degrees in both Furniture & Product Design at Nottingham Trent University and in Fine Furniture Making Leeds College of Art & Design.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE - During his time at NTU Henry gained valuable experience within the furniture industry working for renowned furniture designer and maker Andrew Lawton. Andrew taught how; "each piece of furniture should reveal an attention to detail and an understanding of the client’s needs that no large scale manufacturer could possibly match".
As a result, furniture making soon became a passion and after graduation at NTU Henry was accepted onto the Furniture Making degree at Leeds College of Art & Design. During this time he honed his furniture making skills studying under the expert tutelage of another renowned furniture designer, maker and author, Richard Jones.
BUSINESS GROWTH - Henry had gradually begun growing his own workshop and design studio in Nottingham over his time in study and started taking on bespoke furniture commissions and free-lance design work soon after graduation.
A first large client was Nathan Furniture in Nottingham who tasked him with numerous challenging design briefs and producing working prototypes of contract design ranges, many for high profile clients such as Marks & Spencer.
Originally trading as Henry Bagshawe Furniture, he soon became focused on the design and manufacture of custom and bespoke furniture for private clients and commission. Over the years he has created a wide spectrum of different pieces of bespoke furniture within his workshop, for all demographics, from the time-honoured farmhouse kitchen to state of the art gym facilities and interior design schools.
OTHER INTERESTS - Away from the workshop (and all things design and furniture related) Henry enjoys fly fishing and metal detecting, as well as playing rugby union for Bakewell Mannerians RUFC.
